Empire Glassworks has been around since 2013, a relative baby in the industry but with artists/owners who collectively have 40+ years of experience in crafting exquisite glass pieces for high-end jewellery production. Each and every product they create are hand crafted and are individually designed by highly skilled glassblowers using the highest quality imported glass they can source (all done within the USA). Empire Glassworks uses a very special glassblowing technique whereby they incorporate intricate colours into the glass itself resulting in some pretty impressive 3-D sculptures. Each piece then ends its journey in a kiln where they are fired at 1000 degrees Fahrenheit with higher temperatures making for a strong durable product with incredibly rich bursts of colour.
BEEHIVE
This is a petite water pipe, the smallest in their range that I currently sell. Short in stature and narrow. Not technically a beaker and I would describe it as more column-like in shape. As with all their pieces, the base is reinforced for stability as well as the mouthpiece. I used the term “column”, but I would say it more accurately resembles a small bottle of sorts. The water chamber is on the smaller side and is taller rather than wider. This height is necessary to house the intricate artwork within (more below). the chamber narrows leading up the neck and then the flat mouthpiece.
Measuring: 18cms tall and 5.5cms base diameter.
TIP: Every part of this water pipe is made using the highest quality American Borosilicate Glass.
There is no external artwork on this water pipe, all the intricacy lies within the water chamber. The name of this water pipe should give the premise away, this piece is all about Bees and their habitat. Bees are in a little bit of trouble at the moment, facing extinction and diseases. It cannot be underestimated how important bees are to the environment and to humans. This water pipe is an homage to their service to the planet.
The down stem is built-in, and it can be described as a “banger hanger”. What?? This just means that you can also use this water pipe as a dab rig if you see fit due to the location of the bowl. A 14mm flower bowl (male removable) is provided and sadly there are no bees upon it. A fairly standard bowl with a small round protrusion/handle for safe handling. A medium sized bowl for moderate sessions.
BEEHIVE PERC
For sure the most eccentric percolator I have come across. It sits within the water chamber at a 90° angle and takes up a lot of room. The beehive suspends off a branch and it has various shades of brown glass with tiny intricate bees crawling over it. As this is a percolator it must also be functional and there are 3 opening (diffusion) at the base of the hive for smoke to pass through into the water. This water pipe will be quite visually appealing during use as the water within the chamber will bounce off of the beehive then the walls and back again.
This is definitely a collector’s piece, but this is probably one of the harder Empire Glassworks water pipes to clean/maintain as the artwork is all on the interior.
