Down stems play a crucial role in a water pipe. They provide a direct pathway from the flower bowl/banger to the interior of the water chamber. Some are basic whilst others offer a variety of percolation styles. As a general rule, the more intricate a perc system the smoother/cooler/cleaner the experience will be. When buying a down stem there are a few things to consider. The angle of insertion. The size of your flower bowl connection. The size of the water pipe joint. Lastly, I would try to figure out my desired length of down stem. The stem should end somewhere in the mid portion of the water chamber and there should be some space underneath.
This is quite a unique down stem. It can be lengthened or shortened to meet your specific size needs. The range is 4.5” – 6” (11ish cms – 15ish cms). This is a great feature as you can then use the same stem over a variety of sized water pipes. Not all water pipes will be appropriate and it should work with any 14mm beaker or straight based water pipe with an angled joint. There are technically 2 parts to this down stem and both are held together by a custom fitted segment of heat shrink tubing. To modify the length you simply slide both ends towards each other or apart.
This is by no means a simple perc and this stem will provide a good degree of filtration. At the very end of the stem is a tri-cut showerhead percolation set up. Long slits carved into the bulbous end will break down your smoke before diffusing it through water resulting in a cooled down and filtered experience.
TIP: This down stem will accept a 14mm male flower bowl/banger and will slot into an 18mm female water pipe joint.
