When Grav makes a water pipe/dab rig they know what they are doing. Built strong for a smooth and easy session. Oh, and so they don’t break easily either. SIP SERIES
Grav likes to make groups of products that are based around a central theme. In this case Grav has developed their “Sip Series” of glass bubblers. In case the name doesn’t give it away I guess they are referring to a variety of drinking vessels. This is my fourth foray into the Sip Series (check out the Milk Carton and Slushie Cup), and I hope to further expand my range soon. The Martini Shaker has been designed by the infamous glass artist Micah Evans. I checked out his site and he can do some pretty impressive things with glass. You should have a look too, he is amazing.
The Grav Martini Shaker stands at 7.5” tall (19cms) is crafted to resemble an actual martini shaker that you would find in a swanky bar. The base is flat and a little thickened for stability. The round flat base is the narrowest point of this bubbler (apart from mouthpiece) and it flares out as you reach the top. The water chamber is quite roomy enabling you to set the water level at your preference. The Martini Shaker substantially narrows at the top helping to eliminate splashback. But as per usual I will recommend a few practice inhales at full inhalation capacity to test before lighting/loading any material. The mouthpiece reminds me of an upside down shot glass with a hole in it
A simple and small 14mm bowl (male) is provided. A great size for solo sessions or smaller hits. Frosting has been used for airtight connections. The down stem is fixed in place and creates a 90°angle within the chamber. It is fixed in place to the base as well as to the side of the glass forming a pathway for your smoke to pass through from bowl to water. I would say this is a more basic style of down stem providing simple fission percolation.
FISSION PERCOLATION
A quick word on fission down stem. A down stem links a flower bowl to a water chamber below, allowing for the passage of smoke down into the actual water for cooling and filtration. Not all down stems are created equal with a myriad of designs abounding. Each design is such that a different (more or less intense) effect can be produced. This fission down stem is inbuilt to prevent damage with 4 (quite large) intake holes. These holes are made in a unique way so that they don’t clog up, Grav uses a tungsten rod (while the glass is still hot) to create the holes. This process in turn leaves behind smooth edges. The premise is simple, your one large smoke bubble will pass down the stem passing through the holes. At this point the one bubble is broken down into smaller smoke bubbles that are “pushed” through the water for filtration and cooling effects. All culminating in a cooler/smoother smoking experience.
