Any followers of my Instagram will know that art (particularly street art) is one of my obsessions. Pair that with my obsession with destigmatising the usage (legal) of medicinal herbs and you will understand my excitement over the K Haring Glass Range. My first delivery arrived this week and we held an unboxing ceremony so we could all ooh and aah over the contents.
Keith Haring was (dies 1990, aged 31) an American street artist and a social activist, massively famous in the 1980 for his iconic and vibrant artwork. He began by drawing in New York Subways and sadly was arrested for vandalism on a few occasions. Undeterred he continued on and started tackling some of societies biggest issues of the days via his artwork. AIDS awareness, gay rights and drug usage were some of the causes he believed in quite strongly and he used his artwork to educate. A vibrant visionary who used broad, bold strokes and groundbreaking imagery to spread messages of peace, love, equality, and compassion. Haring united New York City street culture with pop art to create his own iconic visual language that continues to engage and excite.
Now that the art is out of the way let’s talk Tasters. Tasters are also known as one-hitters, bats, chillums or onies and are generally a slender glass (or metal) tube designed for single inhalations. The bowls are almost always on the smaller side and an internal screen or a narrowing will enable you to inhale deeply without ending up with a mouthful of material. They are a great way to control your dosage and help conserve your herbal material. Tasters are a great way to micro-dose enabling those with low tolerance to partake to their own comfort levels.
This taster is a pretty durable and quite complex piece made from heavy duty borosilicate glass. Borosilicate glass is the gold standard for heavy duty glass whilst also being heat resistant. Inferior glass may become unstable at high temperatures and can easily crack. The hand applied art portions are also resistant to heat as is the K. Haring logo located below the mouthpiece. This pipe is extremely light and will easily travel with you as it is small enough to fit entirely within your palm (and I have small hands). A foam lined box is provided for extra protection when storing or out and about.
A straight tube that flares out to a bulb like mouthpiece. The mouthpiece is also reinforced and flat for easy inhales. Sadly, I feel I am not doing the mouthpiece justice in my description as it is really quite beautifully designed and curves so nicely! The complexity of this simple taster can be viewed when looking within. A thinnish yet deep bowl at one end and a built-in ash catcher (thin narrow inner tube) at the other. From start to finish this taster has been designed to deliver nothing but pure and flavoursome smoke.
