My quest to stock as many varieties of innovative rolling papers as I possibly can continues. Not sure when I will decide that I have enough, but that time is not now (and not soon)! As I have stated in many of my write ups, smoking is never ever going to be healthy for you but that does not mean that less damaging methods should not be sought. Not all rolling papers are created equal with some using substances such as bleach or chalk during processing.
Not just your average rolling paper brand, OCB has a very very long history of making paper (of many varieties) starting in 1822 (France)! It wasn’t till 1917 that their focus shifted more towards rolling papers. Don’t need to do the math for you as I am sure you can see the 100 years that have passed since then. One year later after much work the first packet of OCB rolling papers were officially released. Ever since that time OCB has flourished and developed a stellar worldwide reputation. The brand has reached cult status in Europe.
TIP: OCB stands for Odet Cascadec Bollorè. Odet for the Odet River where the first paper mill was situated. Cascadec was the location of their second paper mill and Bollorè is the name of the family that founded it all.
OCB Virgin Range is all about extreme purity. These pre-rolled cones are in their most natural state and have not been bleached. Each cone is light brown in colour due to this reason. No chlorine whatsoever or dyes has been used in the production process. They are very light in nature to provide you a relatively slow burn with the most minimal of flavour (as minimal as OCB can make them) from the actual paper itself. You can also expect minimal ash. These papers are made from sustainably sourced forest fibres (wood pulp), seal with always sticks natural acacia gum and each has a filter pre-installed. All that is left for you is to fill it.
WHY WOOD PULP?
I sell papers made from a few different materials such as hemp, wood pulp, unbleached, ultrafine, cellulose (transparent), palm leaves, banana leaves, flax and corn. There is a reason to choose each (burn rate, taste, thickness etc) with personal preference the reason why a certain type is favoured.
The majority of rolling papers on the market are made from wood pulp fibres (basically paper). Sometimes they are bleached and sometimes left in their natural state. Remember these cones from OCB are virginal and pure, hence the brown colour. These cones will be slightly on the thicker side than other materials (rice, hemp etc) making them a great option for those that may be a little uncertain of their technique. The burn rate is usually on the mediumish side (or fast for inferior brands) and they should not need to be relit once you begin. As for flavour, there will be a mild (not unpleasant for most) aftertaste to these cones. 3 unbleached King-Sized cones are provided, each with an OCB labelled filter in situ and a packing tool.
