Pulsar 4″ Chillum with Honeycomb Screen

I have stocked Pulsar for a while now, but only their herbal vaporisers. They appear to have been around for quite some time now and house over 1000 different products at their facility in North Carolina. Consummate vapers and smokers, they love to innovate and create products that exceed expectations. This is my second foray into their glass hand pipes so I decided to up the game a little from my last choice (Pulsar One Hitter).

AKA One Hitter, Taster or a Bat, all these terms simply refer to a pipe (waterless) that is designed to be used for solo/small sessions. They are discrete options and allow one to micro dose if one so desires. Beneficial for beginners or for those wanting to control overall dosage and preserve their herbal medicine. Design wise most are similar with a glass (or metal) tube with a bowl at one end and mouthpiece at other.

The Pulsar Chillum stands at 4” and is a slim tube of (very strong) Borosilicate glass. A fairly simple and elegant design just like their One Hitter but with some different features. The Chillum is similar in thickness and height to one Hitter with the differences within.

A larger sized bowl is located on one end, perfect size for a single hit. At the base of the bowl is the Honeycomb Screen. This screen has one job, to impede inhalation of any ash or particulate matter. Pulsar calls it a honeycomb but as I look down the Chillum towards the screen, I see a glass partition with small holes (I see 6). This screen is built-in and it is a part of the pipe’s design. On the other end is the mouthpiece portion with smooth rounded edges. Between both ends there is an unobstructed space that ultimately narrows for your smoke to pass through towards your mouth.

To use: When packing the bowl, I would recommend that you hold it in a vertical position. You can pack in 2 ways:

  • Bowl facing the top (upright) with you hand loading. The bowl is the larger side of the pipe. Where the screen is located.
  • Bowl facing the bottom with you twisting the bowl into a container filled with product to be smoked.
  • Don’t pack too tightly so as not to interfere with airflow.

Once packed you are ready to light. Hold the mouthpiece portion to your mouth and light the other end. Inhale and enjoy.

Isopropyl Alcohol should be in the cleaning kit of all glassware/pipe owners. It works particularly well at dissolving resins and any built-up gunk. My other favourite product to clean your glass expertly is rock salt. Both mixed together create a magical cleaning agent that works hard to dissolve grime.

  • Place your pipe in either a plastic bag or container.
  • Pour in Isopropyl Alcohol and rock salt (a little at a time to determine right amount). Seal and shake.
  • Rinse with hot water and allow to air dry.

A further method to consider (especially if you are very lazy!) is the Resremover pouch – simply add water to the contents of the pouch and place your pipe within. Shake and wait before rinsing and allowing to dry. You can reuse the pouch over and over again for chemical free cleaning.

TIP: Pipe cleaners (like from art class) can be manoeuvred into the smallest spaces for thorough cleaning.
