Let me tell you about Pyptek Labs, an American company based out of Colorado. Each and every step of their production process is done in-house and by hand. Using a combination of 3-D printing, old fashioned metal work and real-life glass blowers they are able to create incredible, highly engineered pipes. I perused Pyptek’s website and was quite impressed with their unique approach and beautiful creations.
Pyptek incorporates a metal exo-skelton into their pipes to add rigidity, structure and a cool vibe. This exo-skelton sits around the glass (industrial-grade rubber o-rings inbetween) and is made from aircraft grade aluminium. If you are as clueless as I am on the variety of grades of aluminium, then let me tell that aircraft grade is extremely strong and non-corrosive. To further increase strength the aluminium is then anodized (basically making it even thicker and heat safe).
The body of their pipes are made (local glass blowers, remember?) with high quality borosilicate glass. An extremely durable and heat resisant glass commonly used in cookware. All pipes from Pyptek are designed to be virtually indestructible. We’re talking run-over-by-a-truck indestructible.
In a nutshell the Pyptek Nano (3” long) is a modernised chillum-style glass pipe, perfect as a one-hitter. Stealthy, extremely durable, easy to use and easy to clean.
Pack your “product” into the larger bowl side of the pipe. I would recommend that you don’t grind/chop too finely as this pipe does not include a screen. Lightly shred or smallish chunks should suffice. Pat down so your contents don’t escape before lighting. Light packed end and inhale from the other. Clean out and repack as needed.
To take your pipe apart you will need to first submerge it in warm water for a short period of time to loosen up the friction between the 2 o-rings and the glass (located between the glass and the exo-skeleton). Use a thick pen (or similar) on the mouthpiece end to push the glass out from within its casing. Remove the o-rings and set aside (take note of their position along the glass). Isopropyl Alcohol and Salt (Higher Standards Salt Rox are brilliant) mixed together will easily help you keep your pipe in pristine condition. Warm soapy water can also be used.
To reassemble your pipe, you first need to place back the o-rings. Each ring is situated along the grooved slots on either end of the glass. Moisten the o-rings with a small amount of warm water before inserting glass into the tube. As opposed to removal, when you reinsert the glass tube start at the bowl end. Use the same thick pen as above to move the glass along.
