Will I ever be satisfied with the range of rolling papers that We are Lux showcases? Nup, my never-ending quest to stock as many varieties of innovative rolling papers has become almost like a sport to me now. Seriously though, I strive to find offerings that provide as “clean” an experience as smoking is able to be. As I have stated in many of my write ups, smoking is never ever going to be healthy for you but that does not mean that less damaging methods should not be sought. Not all rolling papers are created equal with some using substances such as bleach or chalk during processing.
Smoking brand papers are an established (and extremely popular) brand going all the way back to 1929 (technically since 1897). Manufactured in Barcelona Spain, they are said to be one of the earliest brands to make rolling papers as well as being one of the largest manufacturers of paper in the world. They produce a vast array of their own papers whilst also producing many private label brands for other companies. Smoking Papers take sustainability and being eco-friendly seriously and have planted tree after tree to play their part, even though most of their papers are tree-free.
MASTER DOUBLE WINDOW
The Master Range is packaged in a platinum-coloured booklet and are crafted for experienced rollers. A few varieties are available (size etc) but all share one trait, they are made from the finest rice paper available with a super slow and very smooth burn. These papers are ultra-thin and each is watermarked for quality assurance. Described as regular meaning they are a standard size (37mm x 70mm).
TIP: These papers are slightly smaller than the standard 1¼ papers on the market.
Arabic Gum is used in all Smoking Papers, the purest you can get. This comes come exclusively from Senegalensis Acacia, otherwise known as Acacia Gum (a form of vegetable gum). This gum is deigned to stick after just one lick. No colourings or additives of any sort have been used. And just to be kind, Smoking includes a paper slip folded within the leaves. This slip will alert you that you are running low, and it is time to purchase more.
This is the double pack with a patented anti-sliding system. 120 leaves are provided in a dual window system, one above the other encased within the booklet.
WHY RICE?
I sell papers made from a few different materials such as hemp, ultrafine, cellulose (transparent), palm leaves, banana leaves, flax and corn. There is a reason to choose each (burn rate, taste, thickness etc) with personal preference the reason why a certain type is favoured.
Rice papers are made by processing rice, pressing it and then stretching it into thin sheets. How cool is that! Papers made from rice are some of the thinnest papers available. In my opinion this poses a positive and a negative. Positive because you are inhaling the least amount of paper possible and negative as they will require a gentle touch when handled. Incredibly thin papers that somehow also burn quite slowly. Taste is a massive reason why most buy rice papers with the least amount of aftertaste on offer. A clean and light experience that allows you to focus on the terpene profile of your herbal material.
