Tsubota Pearl is one of those rare brands that has really stood the test of time. A Japanese brand specialising in metal and leather work that was founded over 60 years ago in 1952. From that day forward till today they have had only one goal in mind – to pay great attention to both originality and quality. All components are made within specialised workshops in and around the Asakusa area of Tokyo (AKA downtown Tokyo).
Hiroshi Tsubota was the man that started it all (Tsubota Seisakusho) subsequently choosing the name “Pearl” after the world’s first cultured pearl was invented in Japan. Hence the name Tsubota Pearl was born. Over the years a steady stream of incredibly beautiful products were crafted including lighters, cigarette cases, cigar cutters, business card holders, perfume roll-on atomizers, pill boxes, mirrors, optical cases, pens and money clips. Classic designs that never go out of style and are sold world wide.
TASCA LEATHER POCKET ASHTRAY
I think smokers (all of stripes and creeds) should try to be as polite as they can be when partaking amongst others. This includes obviously not exhaling directly at (or near) them but also where you ash and place your butts when done. My solutions is to cart around your own ashtray, preferably one with a lid of sorts to keep the odour/contents contained. And if you are going to go to the bother of carrying around an ashtray then you may as well make it a stylish ashtray. As weird as this sounds, an ashtray you are proud to pull out of your pocket and use!
The Tasca Pocket Ashtray is on the smaller side, would be weird to call it “pocket” and make it massive in size though. There are 2 parts to this ashtray; the outer moveable (leather wrapped over brass) cover and the internal (brass) reservoir that is revealed when the cover is slid across. This ashtray is crafted so beautifully that to be honest I would feel bad ashing inside of it and would probably use it as storage instead!
TIP: The design of the internal reservoir is such that your ash will be shielded from the wind and should not blow out of the tray. Of course, this is only the case if you empty it out regularly too!
Either slide open whenever you need to ash (sliding shut when done), use as a storage container or just lovingly admire whilst holding. The choice is yours. Oh, and don’t forget to empty out your ashtray at regular intervals.
You will want to keep the outside of your case well maintained to allow the leather to age naturally. Cleaning leather inappropriately can cause it to lose some colour. My first piece of advice is to get a cloth that is in no way abrasive as you don’t want to scratch the leather. Dip the cloth into some warm soapy water and gently wipe down the exterior of the case. Don’t over saturate and allow to dry. A dedicated leather cleaning solution can also be used.
As for the interior you can either use the same damp cloth as above or an alcohol wipe if any gunk has built up within.
