Empire Glassworks has been around since 2013, a relative baby in the industry but with artists/owners who collectively have 40+ years of experience in crafting exquisite glass pieces for high-end jewellery production. Each and every product they create are hand crafted and are individually designed by highly skilled glassblowers using the highest quality imported glass they can source (all done within the USA). Empire Glassworks uses a very special glassblowing technique whereby they incorporate intricate colours into the glass itself resulting in some pretty impressive 3-D sculptures. Each piece then ends its journey in a kiln where they are fired at 1000 degrees Fahrenheit with higher temperatures making for a strong durable product with incredibly rich bursts of colour.

RECYCLER??
Quick lesson – What is a recycler? A 2 chambered percolation system that enables the water within to be cycle through and back around. Both chambers are interconnected (usually via a tube) and work together to clean/filter and cool your water resulting in a super smooth and clean experience. You use a recycler just as you would any other rig/water pipe and all the recycling occurs whilst you are inhaling. Basically, as you inhale your smoke will pass through the main water chamber before your smoke and some of the water is pulled up into the second chamber for round 2 of filtration. Your double-filtered smoke will then pass up towards your mouth whilst the water recycles below.
UNDER THE SEA
This dab rig is madness! So much to discuss. A long and thin piece made from very thick glass borosilicate glass. Curves galore. The base is wide and flat with a slight blue tinge to the glass when held at certain angles. A nice and stable base that includes a small glass starfish applied to the bottom. This is just the beginning and there are many intricate “creatures/plants” all over this dab rig, mostly around the middle. All artwork is on the outside of the glass enabling easier cleaning (just imagine if they were on the inside!). Halfway up this rig narrows and then flares out before narrowing again as you reach the mouthpiece. The mouthpiece is flat, quite wide and double reinforced. There is a blue tinge to the glass at the very top just like on the base.
Measuring: 12″ or just over 30cms tall.
The down stem is built in and is of the “banger hanger” variety, meaning that it sits at a 90° angle. Many dab rigs utilise this style of down stem to enable safe lighting of a banger. Depending on length this sort of down stem can also act as a form of ash catcher. In this situation gravity plays a role and gunk will accumulate at the base of the external portion. This is turn will make cleaning the interior easier. Once inside the down stem curves, a simple open ended down stem. The water chamber is on the medium/smaller side but as this is a recycler this is not really an issue in terms of filtration.
TIP: Various parts of this dab rig are UV Reactive and will glow in the dark.
BANGER, CARB CAP AND TERP BEADS
It would be weird if a dab rig came without a banger but carb caps and other paraphernalia are generally not included. Not so with this piece. The following are provided;
- 14mm Quartz Banger – Flat top, quite deep with a thickened base. A thick base will retain heat longer and in an even manner and is the option of choice for low temperature dabbers.
- Carb – Pink + clear glass directional carb cap. It is a sea themed carb cap and I am guessing it is a jellyfish? Round and bulbous with tentacles on end and a directional tube on the other.
- Terp Beads – x3 Glass Starfish shaped beads. Terp beads/balls are placed inside bangers and their role is to move about/agitate the contents of the banger once lit. This movement enables the heated oil to “dance” around. Moving oil does not stick to one spot resulting in more even heating and less hot spots.
